Can I get a raise please?
I think I pissed off my main manager today, because I’m telling him how to run his store on Sundays…well, he’s not here sundays, and the assistant manager who is there until 3pm hides in the aisles and stocks shelves…or in his upstairs office, and when a customer wants to “speak with a manager” and I page him, he always calls me and asks what it is and never wants to come down…and I have to put our courtesy clerk on cash for forever (since we never have enough cashiers on sunday) so carts and baskets never get done. It’s fucking ridiculous.
And this new “better customer service” training they’re doing is so hypocritical, because all the things I could do better for my department require me having more help. My favourite was “when there are more than 3 customers in line notify the manager in charge”…well, I’m actually the one who always has to track anyone else in the store down who knows cash, and they usually tell me they’re going on break (like the lady in produce). Two weeks ago I had to yell down the cereal aisle at the assistant manager who’s always m.i.a. since we had NO carts or baskets left for customers. He finally found a kid in grocery to help out with that stuff. I do everything on Sunday, yet how is this stuff my job when there’s an actual manager in the store? Ugh. Plus he’s gone by 3, so I still have no real help.
This Sunday is the Superbowl, which is always incredibly busy before 4pm, so I talked to my main manager today about all this crap I deal with and begged for extra help…he finally gave us more help for Superbowl Sunday…but I have a shift in cash office Sunday night now since the other girls took that day off…so this other kid has to do my Sunday afternoon service desk and supervising job, and he rarely does service desk to begin with…hope he survives. My main manager said he “might pop in Sunday”, and I hope he does and sees how fucking busy it is and takes me more seriously. I’ve been here for over six years, I have a university degree, I fucking manage your store on the weekends pretty much.
So I didn’t ask for a raise yet. But I get to relax Sunday night at work while everyones watching football, so I win anyways :)
